D.C. Row House Deck

1 MIN READ

Perched atop an existing rear garage behind a Washington, D.C., row house and exposed to the full view of the occupants of a 6-story apartment building that sits behind it across an alley, this ipe deck needed both shade and privacy. To provide both, Kube Architectural, the firm tasked with coming up with a solution, designed a multi-layer shade structure consisting of Corten steel panels, perforated aluminum screens, steel railings, and a stainless steel paneled roof. While the interior looks sleek and refined, the rugged exterior doesn’t look out of touch with the surrounding alley environment, which is filled with functional elements such as AC units and garage doors. The project is a 2017 Remodeling Design Award winner.
