A surprisingly high number of people are allergic to bee venom and can die from a single sting; according to the USDA, it’s 1 in 500. In the U.S., about 100 people die each year as the result of allergic reactions to insect bites and stings. The takeaway is, be careful around bees, even if you are not highly allergic.
