While there’s no one code-approved “right” way to flash a deck ledger, Rhode Island builder Mike Guertin has seen enough water-damaged homes to know how critical it is to get the details right. In part 2 of his 3-part series on proper deck ledger installation, Guertin explains his belt-and-suspenders approach to waterproofing the deck ledger, which involves a carefully-sequenced layering of the house wrap, self-adhering flashing membranes, and metal L-flashing.
