Everything But the (Outdoor) Kitchen Sink

Some homeowners in 4-season climates choose to omit sinks from their outdoor kitchen projects in order to avoid having to freeze-proof them in the colder months. In this profile by Remodeling’s Erin Ansley, Tim Fellin of Yardscapes Northwest explains the strategy behind a recent project in Boise, Idaho, where his company added an $80,000 outdoor living space to a home with a long, narrow backyard. Mirroring the layout and elevation of the home’s interior, Fellin’s rustic and traditional design features a stamped concrete patio with three sections that naturally flow from one to the next, an outdoor kitchen (sans sink), a firepit, and a Douglas fir pergola.
